Christmas Cards

These are a couple of hand-made Christmas cards I made last week. They are fold out cards (similar to those I made for self promotion last year). There are 4 designs - 12 of each only and 2 different screenprinted illustrations inside.

Durga

Hey Folks,
This is the second screen print. It's of the Goddess Durga. She is known for maintaining moral order in the universe. She is also considered to be a form of the Goddess Parvati who is Shiva's wife and the mother of Ganesh (the elephant god).
There are a few hidden things in this one which I'll let you guys find.

Shiva

Hey Folks,
It's been a while since I've posted anything. I have been busy designing some new silk screen prints which I am really excited about. This is one of them. It's of the Hindu God Shiva who is known to be the destroyer and re-creator of the universe. Hopefully I'll be getting this to the printers soon. Another print is on its way :)

Will be posting some more bits and bobs soon!

Much Love

Poonam

Poster

I found this poster I did at the end of my second year at university.

Box images

Box design for self promotion

As part of my self promotion I designed a decorated box containing picture books and wooden disks with images around the theme of nature. Here are pictures of the finished project.

Avatar 5

This is the last one I will show from the 10 as I just wanted to show a selection of the images. This is Vamana (the drawf priest). The book was a concertina with a separate booklet at the front containing the text. I created a wraparound cover that could be removed so that the book could be viewed in a conventional way or as a timeline.

Avatars 3 and 4

These are the next two avatars of Vishnu. The first one is of Varaha (the boar) and the other is of Narasimha (half lion and half man).

The 10 Avatars Of Vishnu Contertina Book

To accompany my silkscreen prints I designed a book that contained the 10 different forms of Lord Vishnu. Vishnu is the maintainer/ preserver of the universe. All 10 avatars represent the past and future forms in which he has come to restore the balance of good and evil. These are the first two avatars known as Matysa (the fish) and Kurma (the turtle). Unlike the silkscreen prints I wanted to keep these more traditional and hence used more earthy tones as most of the avatars are shown in stone.

Owl

Rabbit

This was part of the wood collection. I also made two animals to accompany the disk. Its about 30cm by 20cm in size.

Wooden Disk

Here are some close up images of the wooden disk I made. There are 4 different animals on the wood: a hawk, fox, cat and weasel with a rabbit in the center.

Wooden Pieces

For one of my final projects, I decided to try a way of applying my style to new media. I chose Watership Down by Richard Adams as my text to base my images on, so it just seemed natural to use wood. The disk shows the story of El-ahrairah, the prince of rabbits and the enemies he faces created by Lord Firth. The pieces are all made of oak and have been made completely by hand.
Sorry for the poor quality photos.

Silkscreen Print 3

This is my final silkscreen print. It is of the Goddess Saraswati who is the Goddess of knowledge, music and the arts. Hopefully very soon a limited number of all three silkscreen prints will be available to buy. The size of the prints are 50cm by 70cm.

Silkscreen Print 2

This print is of the Hindu God Ganesh. He is known to be the remover of obstacles and is associated with good luck. This print is actually in gold foil. Unfortunately none of the photos did the image justice. I'll try my best to get an actual photograph that is of a better quality soon.

Silkscreen Prints

After many attempts of trying to take decent pictures of my silk screen prints, I officially give up. I believe the photoshop files do more justice to the pieces. The colours are more or less the same, you just don't get the same quality as the actual prints themselves. Its just one of those things that look better when seen with your own eyes than as a photograph.
This first one is of the Hindu monkey god Hanuman.

Degree Show

This is my final degree show. The framed prints and the book on the shelf are part of a journey project, the wooden pieces at the bottom are part of my showcase project, where I picked Watership down as my text that I based my imagery on, and the model on the plinth is my self promotion project. I'm sorry for the poor quality photograph. I'll be posting some better images soon.

Upside Down World

This was another illustration for Alice in Wonderland. I was playing with the idea of there being two worlds and the rabbit hole linked them together.

Alice In Wonderland

These are some images I created for a brief in my third year. The book was Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Here is a double page spread and the front cover.
